The Wool Shop features

The most comments I receive from people, are on the quality of wool used, and how beautiful the colors are in my rugs. My secret: Overdyeing all my wool.  White or Ivory wool is hard to find and is often very expansive.  When overdyeing coloured wools, the cloth is transformed into a workable palette by giving your colors softness and fluidity.  They can be changed into dark colors, or lightly dirtied for pastels.  All kinds of dyeing methods can be used on coloured wools, even when fibre contents are mixed, as long as the amount of synthetics are at a minimum.

All Hooked Rug Studio wools are new woollen cloth and are unwashed unless stated otherwise.  These are my favourite wools to use, and I have used them all in my projects.

They are priced by meter, (39 1/2") and amounts can be purchased by 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or 1 meter.  Qualities are limited and may not be repeated.

Over-dyeing for Beautiful Results Color Chart

Over-dyeing is a great way to learn how one color affects the another.  Over-dyeing can

also help bulk up the fabric by shrinking the fibbers when they are loosely woven

making it easier to hook.

Over-dyeing is my favourite dyeing method because one color affects another and

this can make a rug much more interesting

When dyeing dark colors, the dye bath will need to be stronger.  When dyeing pale

colors, the dye bath can be weaker.

WOOL GOOD FOR RUG HOOKING:
The best weight to use is the skirt or light coat weight.  It is important that there be at least
4 to 5 threads in a stripe in order for the stripe to hold together during hooking.
