Frequently Asked Questions

I often receive questions from fellow rug hookers about rug hooking, and I have found that there are many different techniques out there.  There are no right or wrong answers.   With that said, here are my thoughts and methods.

I love the colors in your rugs, what wool do you use?

To achieve the color range needed in my rugs, I use only new woolens and over dye on pastel colors.  The only time I use natural colored woolens is when I need a white or very pale dirty white.  Remember to shake dye package before measuring.  The dye has many colors in it,  so you need ot shake it to get the true color.

What kind of hook should I get?

When it comes to hooks it is best to try out different sizes and shapes.  The hook should comfortably in your hand and should not cause you any pain while hooking.

What is your favorite brand when it come to cutters?

I use a Canadian cutter called Bolivar.  It come with a lifetime guaranty and will never need sharpening.

Where can I go to buy wool and supplies?

We offer an online store that carries everything you need.  We also have a studio in St Albert that sells supplies and finished pieces.

Do you accept commisions?

The answer to that questions is absolutely.   We can take your old family pictures or ideas and turn them into a finished piece ready to hang.

I have a picture that I would like to make into a rug, but cannot draw.  Can you create and pattern for me?

One of my favorite things to do for people to create personalized patterns.  I can take any picture and create your next family heirloom.

Do you ever travel and teach outside your studio?

Yes, I travel and teach in the US and Canada.  Please contact me for more information.
